1996 850GLT20v Sump Removal , jack MVSOLVED

Post by Paul240480 »

Hi All.
Following finding quite a major oil leak at the sump to engine join, I decided to follow the fab 'how-too' on here for sump seals replacement.

I have the sump off & have replaced the seals .

Now I just cannot work out how to get the flippin' thing back on. Into my third day of trying now

Seems like I need about another cm of lift on the engine, but why when it came out & not sure if safe to try to get it any higher.

On removing I just had a crow bar wedged between the driver side (for me  ) engine mount and the sub-frame. Now have a thick piece of wood in there, but still no way its going in.....

This is where I'm at:

This is becoming one of those 'wish I'd never started this' jobs

So I am hoping that from these pics, one of you kind souls will see a glaring error on my behalf, which as of yet I am not.........

Thanks in advance.

Did you remove the brackets for the power steering lines? I have much more trouble on the transmission side than I do on the engine mount side but removing the brackets will allow the power steering lines to be moved out of the way enough to snake the sump back on.

Doing a job for the first time, thinking about all the things you can break, is downright scary.

It doesn't matter if it's your first oil filter or your bottom end bearing job, it's what MVS is all about!

...and where did you jack it, btw?

Well , we (rightly or wrongly) went up on the big bracket thing on the passenger side ( for you guys) drive shaft. Just went up another centimetre and the pan slipped in easily :D
