2002 S80 Ac is ice cold then hot then cold

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2002 S80 Ac is ice cold then hot then cold

Post by johnnyp3 »

In our Volvo S80, when you start your trip the AC is ice cold. The AC will stay cee cold your entire road trip as long as you don't stop at a drive thru. We go on 1 to 2 hr road trips if we go straight there the AC will do fine the entire trip. If we stop and go through a drive thru after about 3-5 minutes in line with the car idling, the AC will start blowing hot air. When we get back on the road you will have to turn the AC off for about 5 -10 minutes and when you turn it back on the AC will start blowing ice cold again. What would be casing this? we checked the refrigerant and it showed on the gauge in green, when the compressor kicks on the gauge will go to yellow. Does it need more refrigerant, if so to what PSI? Compressor going bad?

The compressor clutch gets hot and stops working.
It needs to have the clearance adjusted.
If you have questions about Volvo firmware ask me. I may know an answer :)
