2007 V70 wagon Can't get new brake light bulb in

Post by quiltinkate »

Thanks to helpful posts from several years ago I finally was able to conquer the pitiful directions in my owner's manual and remove the speaker and the bulb holder to put in a replacement bulb. Now, no matter how I turn and try to align the bulb holder I cannot get it to seat in correctly so that I can turn it clockwise to lock in. Anyone have any tips??

Use a flashlight and align bulb socket looking at it from outside the car. Also before inserting the socket, figure out how exactly it should go in.

Thanks for your input! Ended up taking the car for an oil change today and they are going to put it in for me!

The pins on two filament bulbs aren't in the same place on the brass part of the bulb, so that only one way of insertion is correct. If you choose the wrong orientation, it will go in and look ok, but it won't bayonet in.Remove, twist 180 degrees, try again.

Same problem and TWO different Volvo shops couldn't get it in.. I found it easier to remove the taillight assembly and install it that way. No dropped parts. By the way, I also tied a fishing line around it so it wouldn't drop when my hand could no longer take the pain
