1997 850R. Issue with new keyless entry

Post by Calsparky »

Recently bought my mechanics baby from him (close family friend and the reason I have owned Volvos since I was 18).The issue I have is that the car did not come with a keyless entry,so I went on eBay and bought a used factory one and attempted to program it with the information I have found on the internet to no avail. Is it a requirement that I pull the glove box and verify the numbers on the black box and buy a remote accordingly or should the factory one I bought still work regardless as long as I go through the programming by flipping the key back and forth from position one to two (I did get the constant blinking light).Any help greatly appreciate and I would ask my mechanic but he finds things like keyless entry irrelevant as long as he has a strong motor and a exhaust to enjoy it through.

There are two versions of the base keyless entry system and the model number and FCC identifier is important. The two different series program the same way but they will not talk to each other.

On a R I think they get into the Guard alarm system on most if not all of them and it takes a completely different remote. If you pull the glove box you can at least see what, if anything, is there and pull the numbers off of it. I have no experience with the Guard system and I'm not even sure that the receiver is in the same location.

Only one remote works for all 1997 850's. If it looks like this it will work:

http://www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/31053/A ... e-9442982/

The receiver is under the dash near the fuse box (no need to find it).

I will post programming info if I can locate it,
