1998 V70R Main window switch replacement

Where is everyone buying a replacement main window switch (the driver door)?

Anyone try switchdoctor.net or stay with dealer item?

Will also be buying headlight (pass) and parking light (driver) in near future. Any good sources for genuine Volvo parts at online discounts?

Master switch: could be a free fix (if the button for RR window does not work).
Info in forum.

Most of us here buy good used parts from local junk yard or ebay.
A good used OEM part is generally better than aftermarket.

Thanks, but I want to stay away from the funky-gunky used OEM switches. My switch works fine, it's just ugly. It looks really really dirty and covered with gunk - but apparently is a melted gunky - which I seem to see is a common problem.

The switchdoctor.net site says their switch has been modified to eliminate this problem and is identical in look and function to OEM and has lifetime warranty.

Any tried them?

I have removed and cleaned switches.
Just another Volvo project.

Thanks Shane, I could clean it, but don't want to bother trying since the melted plastic syndrome seems common and the switch is 17 years old anyway.

So really looking for a replacement suggestion.

It's not the plastic, it's a coating on the plastic. You can remove it.
My guess is that over the years, heat and cleaning products take their toll.
There's shiny plastic under there. If your switch works, you can simply clean it.

Thanks BEJ - I could clean it but one of the switch covers is a bit wonky too, so rather than screw around with it I thought it better to replace it. Any recommendations for a replacement switch? Genuine Volvo or ??

- Genuine Volvo: $130 or so.
- Aftermarket $30 or so: but I have no idea if it is good or not...

I have a switchdoctor unit still in the box. I ordered it but decided to take the existing unit apart and clean it. It was still working fine when the car was sold a couple of years later. The unit is still sitting in my 'stash' unused in the event I need to replace the one on my current car. So sorry can't advise if the unit is good or bad. Maybe the quality of the part has improved, but I do recall that although it looks similar it is not exactly the same and does not feel of the same quality. Can't knock the warranty and the contactless switch in theory.
