2005 V50 transmission flaring

We are looking at buying a 2005 V50. The car is a trade-in at a Subbie dealer. The problem is that when we took it for a test drive, the trans exhibited some flaring at 2nd to 3rd gear.

The subbie dealer is taking the car to the Volvo dealer for diagnosis. Perhaps a flush will fix it, maybe a sticky valve?

The bigger question is this - if a flush fixes the problem will it come back with a vengeance and is the trans in a 2005 V50 prone to flaring? If it is then to my wifes chagrin, we will need to pass on the V50. The S60 has over 225,000 miles on it and the trans runs fine. I gave it a flush last year using the expensive ATF blood.
