2007 S40 No start after head gasket change

Post by Craigd2599 »

Okay...still need some advice. I did the entire head rebuild (which wasn't as difficult as I feared.) got it all back together but the car won't fire. It turns freely (which means everything is lined up appropriately....thank God) it sputters one time and then stops cranking. It will also do something VERY odd. The starter will remain engaged and spinning the engine even after I release the key from "start" position. I can take my hand entirely off the key and it will still be trying to start the car. It started doing this when the gasket blew.
I did the "unlock-lock" thing and reset the immobilizer. Fuel Pressure seems good. I get no fire and this odd starting anomaly. Any thoughts?

Does the engine appear to turn over 'too freely'?
Maybe it is 'lawnmower syndrome'.
Try a teaspoon or so of oil in each cylinder with the plugs removed to help raise the compression.

There are many posts in the forum about lawnmower syndrome and its effects. Do a search to read up on it.
