If you can't find one locally PM me. Make sure you chase the threads on the intake cam before you screw in the lock tool.

An electronic impact will take the nut off the crank just fine. There is no need for the tool.

I'll be changing my timing belt & camshaft seals. Everything I've read indicated the need for this

Nope. You don't need the locking tool to change timing belt, or any seals.

Time the engine to zero then use a marker to mark everything (position of cam pulleys to cam shafts, #1 pulley to #1 shaft, #2 pulley to #2 shaft, etc) before taking things off and you'll be fine.

Cam locking tool is a waste time, money, and effort in my opinion. Yes, timing belt is off, so take care and not move the camshafts, it's not that hard.

Let's see now I think I've tallied 8 or 9 timing belts on CVVT engines (not dual CVVT though)

All were done without a locking tool. A lot of stuff to get out of the way in order to fit a locking tool. It would turn a 2 hour job into a 4 hour job.

Take a look at FCP's video for timing belt change:

Mike, how do you get the CVVT hub indexed properly and the center torx screw torqued down without the cam adjustment tool? I tried on my first '99 but I couldn't get it right without the tool.

The good news to the OP is that, if you do ultimately have to buy the tool, it is about $100 cheaper than it was a few years ago. I think the best deal I could find when I bought mine was $160.

Sorry about my lack of attention. I was thinking about timing belt change.

The tools are going to come in handy

With a CVVT engine you really do.
