2003 XC90 Replaced alternator now car won't start

Post by ricebw2 »

I had a bad alternator and replaced it. Problem I am now having is the car won't start. Turns over fine but will not fire. Had removed alternator for testing and removed computer modules for access to serpentine belt tension pulley. Car sat for 2-3 weeks before I installed rebuilt alternator due to competing priorities. Car originally was starting fine with no problems at all but, after putting everything back together... the engine will turn over but will not start. Is it possible that the computer modules were damaged by removing them and that could prevent the car from starting? Not sure what else to check but am very frustrated thinking that putting the alternator back in would have me up and running again.

Did you try cleaning the contacts for the modules you removed, maybe they are corroded. Is it throwing any codes?

Did you disconnect the battery before pulling the modules?

Can you check for spark and fuel at the rail? Is it possibly out of fuel; guages can lie when close to empty.

Yes I cleaned the contacts with electronics contact cleaner. Haven't checked for codes yet.

Yes, I did disconnect battery before removing modules. Haven't checked for fuel or spark yet..was too disgusted after the episode of installing the new alternator. Will get back to it when I return from a trip.
