1998 S70R Saffron

Post by ahmedshaheen »

Hi all,
it's been a while since i visited the forum. Well, i just bought a 1998 S70R  and i need to know as much info about as possible first need to start with the engine type is it B5234T4,OR T3 OR TR. The vin number is YV1LS5008W2477240. The stealer verified that it is a real "rare" R type and give me the mentioned engine type, but i really do not trust what they say as they made several mistake with my S70 AWD. Can anyone tell the correct engine type.

Being new to the R type Volvos, dose anyone recommend any online parts and performance shops?

Thanx!

You have a S70 R? Never heard of one of these in the U.S., though they do exist in Europe and possibly Canada. T3 engine I would assume, but I have no way to look up engine type for an S70 R.

It confused me because you have your location as Tenn. As far as engine parts, it depends on which parts you're talking about. Please list which parts and then we can tell you if they'll fit or not....many are universal to the S70 and doesn't matter which model.

I have searched everything I have and I can find nothing that references a 50 engine code. I would say rare indeed.

Yeah u r right, i have not changed my profile. as ia have the attention to keep this car for a long time and make it a little ongoing project, I am looking to replace all of the gaskets a mean all of them from top to bottom that would also include the cylinder gasket. In fact i took everything out of the hood- i mean everything- and i will work on this project for the coming couple of months. I need to replace the gaskets, clutch, mounting kits, hoses, etc. My mechanic, who is a close friend of mine, told me that i better off change the seals and gaskets around the cylinders and rods, he said he can tell that some of them are kinda worn out due to heat and so. I took his advice and i told him to take everything apart and reassemble using new stuff. In other words I am doing an engine rebuild without really needing to.

so now i am stuck with the stealer because he is the only one who knows about the parts of this car, but if i can get them from anywhere on the web i would save a lot of cash that could be used towered performance kits. so if you have suggestion please let me know about them.
thanx

If you knew part numbers from the dealer, you could write to www.fcpgroton.com and they can get you the part numbers. Since you're doing all gaskets and seals you are right- you need to make sure that ones specific to your engine to avoid trouble in the future.

Hi there, I plugged your VIN into my Vadis software and it came up with an engine type of B5234T4, and chassis 477240.

Hope this helps - Phil
