1996 850 N/A several things stopped working all of sudden

Post by GDiode »

I haven't finished putting the head back on one daughter's 850 when the other daughter's 850 started having problems.

Okay so she started up her '96 855 N/A and the turn signals, daytime running lights, speedometer and odometer were not working. At first she only noticed that the turn signals were not working so we checked the fuse. It was fine, so I started to drive it home since she is a new driver without her license yet. Then I notice that the speedometer and odometer weren't working and the ABS light was on. We stopped to get my son and noticed that the daytime running lights and the dash lights were also not working. The emergency flashers, tachometer and high beams work. When I turn the head light knob from daytime mode to running light mode they (the side marker lights) and the the dash lights work.

Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where to look next? My daughter was supposed to go and have her driving test tomorrow but now we will have to postpone that.

Thank you,
Shannon

Textbook failing ignition switch.
Do things start working again if
you roll the key back just a little?

Just to clarify, he is referring to the electrical portion of the ignition switch. You can pull it very quickly from the other 850 and swap it in.
