1998 V70 T5 - Actual Cash Value

A 98 is a better year for the 'R' as no ETM, simpler emissions system, and less obsolete unique parts like my 2000 has. Most of the expansive stuff has been done so could be a good buy depending on price.

Still ask to see the comparables the other driver's insurance company based their offer on. I'll bet some serious coin that they aren't using T5 models. Also, make sure they aren't using S70s or XCs (which I would expect they'd use).

Make sure their comparables are the same model year and have similar mileage. Ask for the VIN numbers on the comparables and ask to see the appraisal/condition reports they used for comps. Remember, in NJ anyway, they have to give you a retail price, plus sales tax.

Don't jump at the first offer even if it seems in the neighborhood of reasonable.

I've been down this road with my girlfriends Toyota corolla. She got tboned, 0 fault. It was an 06 with 36k on it. She lived in queens and the car spent most of its life in the parking garage of her building. This is 3 years ago. The drivers insurance tried to give her an insulting 5k for it so I took over. She didn't want to argue and thought that if that's what they offer that's what you get. She was going to take it because she bought it off lease and didn't pay much more for it. I asked them to find a corolla with comparable mileage options and year and they couldn't. They were quoting 2006s in the 90k area of mileage in the bronx. I sent them ebay listing and other low mileage cars in that year range and they were much more than the ones they sent me. The closest they got was an 09 with 35k and they gave us almost the retail price of that, 9500. You can totally argue with them. You're in a unique position with a rare car in good condition and you should be able to force them to pay out for it. We also kept the car and I sold it for 4k to a guy who owns a body shop off Craigslist.

Correct, my insurance company low balled me and compared my cars to non-turbo S70s. The other driver's insurance offered me more but has not sent me the paperwork with the comparable cars yet.

This seller is on Volvospeed, I have iteracted with him a few times he is meticulous and trustworthy, and the car for sale is a great deal if you want the comforts of a 98R without the hassle of AWD and the BONUS of a factory manual transmission. Granted, the modifications will not suit everyone's tastes, but it is still a very nice example of a rare combination so worth mentioning here:

That looks gorgeous, I might just check it out. My wife wants us to consider a new car since our Jeep is 6 years old and has 120k miles on it. I'm still going to argue the value and safety of the older volvo cars and the fact we don't want a car payment for another 5 years.

I got the comp list this morning all of the cars listed are 1998 V70 GLT Turbos. They typically took 10% off the dealer advertised price as "typical negotiation" and then added $220 to account for the difference between a GLT and a T5. I emailed her back some options that were not listed on my car like the spoiler and heated seats and gave her receipts for the engine work I did since they listed the engine and transmission as "minor work"
