2004 v70 bearing replacement

The car has 100,000 km and there is a whirring sound from the front left.
Garage has quoted for an OEM which is double the price of the aftermarket one.
Will an aftermarket hub and bearing be OK? What's the difference in how long they last? Double the price for OEM seems a lot.

I would put a used OEM one instead. Can be checked by hand and should last long enough. Can come along with the spindle.

Can't recommend aftermarket brands, I've read good and bad stories. But I don't think the bearing would come with the spindle so the old bearing must be pulled out from the spindle. Don't discard the plastic seal on the CV joint side and the axle center bolt must be replaced because it's a stretch bolt.

However, I won't jump right away on replacing a bearing just because there is some noise. To me, the garage diagnosis seems a little careless. 100,000 is too early for a wheel bearing. In all cases, once the brake disk is removed, the bearing can be turned by hand to feel any roughness before disassembling it.

Bearing noise is more like a growling. Whirring sound might come from the transmission (such as low oil level) or the tires because of low pressure, excessive wear, off geometry. Also when brake pads are worn to the metal.

Well...turns out it was the bearing. We get a lot of potholes in the roads here and there was a balancing problem with the wheel last winter that could have contributed.
Pads have 15-20% left on them.

100000km on an OEM bearing is really early failure. Mine lasted 300,000 km.
