2004 xc90 what are the sign of a bad alternator

I have a 2004 xc90 and I got stuck after getting my kids for football one night, I went ten o start my car and it wouldn't start just thought I had left something on so I had it jump and it started right up. but then drove it maybe 10 blocks when there it just shut down.. So I left it came back the next day and it start up but then it was slowing shutting down again, So we replaced the battery and I still had the battery light and the EL. Power System light on! Can someone help me!!

Sounds like a bad alternator to me. Have you checked all the battery terminals, under the hood too?

No we haven't but we did replace the battery!

Need to make sure the alternator works good or it will kill the new battery as well. Alternator is checked with a voltmeter with the engine running. Also the pulley can seize above 150K miles - look up Youtube how to check it. The pulley is replaced individually.

Mine seized at 145k. It was dragging the power steering down so I replaced it. It's not too bad, I want in from the timing belt door.

Thanks for the reponse we have it at a shop and they are checking to see what the problem is, with our jobs we just don't have the time to look at it ourself.. Will let you know as soon I as I do. Again thanks for your help!!

Can you please update... was it your alternator after all?
