Cleaning coated Zimmerman rotors before install.
Cleaning coated Zimmerman rotors before install.
I've purchased a set of coated zimmerman rotors for the rear wheels with some OEM pads. Every other time I've done brakes on other vehicles I've given the rotors a good cleaning but the instructions included seem to indicate not to 'remove the coating.' I've gotten mixed information it seems from perusing other threads so I ask you this: Should I clean these before throwing them on in the morning?

I installed a pair of Zimmerman rotors last year on my S80. This type of coating doesn't just wipe off with brake cleaner. I left it on as, as the instructions say, it protects the parts of the discs that the pads don't touch. Then I faithfully followed the beak-in instructions: successively more vigorous braking episodes, allowing the discs to cool off in between. So far I couldn't be happier with the braking performance. So my advice is to just follow the instructions.

I would be inclined to follow the directions that came with the rotors.
