Does anybody know if replacing my Bosch ETM (different from '99-'02) for the '03 model year requires certain programming for this to work?

Install and turn ignition on for 40 or so seconds and you will hear the throttle be manipulated to open-close-open-close. That is the calibration and is all that is required.

Well thats easy and good to hear. Why am i hearing programming required for the throttle bodies of some S80's? Could they be referring to the 1999 to 2002 models which have an entirely different part?

ETM's are full module ith software contained within and have to have the reload to make them work.

So just follow your instruction of activating ignition and calibration and all should be fine?

Yes. The unit on your car is a motor and two position potentiometers. The ECM only needs to know the signals from both pots at their end points to know how to operate the throttle.

Hi Jimmy57,

Does same apply to 05 S80?

Local Vovlo shop just diagnosed bad ETM - need to replace it. I said I would do it myself...they said it would need s/w programming to be used.

I did the PVC service last spring, cleaned the TB while I was at it...I fell like I could remove/replace w/ new unit....but the programming has me concerned.

I appreciate the help.

Thanks

Peter

There IS NO software part number for a Bosch throttle reload. Dealers are using previous info of ETM (Magnetti Marelli) to extract dollars from unsuspecting customers. When they realise there was no software download they still charge for it to appear knowledgeable.
