Helping a neighbor. It looked like a coolant hose on the oil cooler popped and she overheated. Car failed compression test, hoping for just a head gasket. The timing was still spot on.
Pics attached. Head and block do not appear warped using a straight edge.
We bought the eBay crankshaft holder and timing tools. I was looking forward to a nice easy head gasket.
With a crack like this, what happens if one just reassembles? Does it run "ok" for a short period of time and then eat through the new head gasket?

Needs a new block. It will use a small amount of coolant initially and then progress to having a miss and some white smoke one run up to normal temp and then shut off and then restarted after an off period.
I am ignorant of model/block applications. Is this block unique, or can one substitute from the normal aspirated model (or others)?
For example, I see this one http://ebayitem.com/361400995822
