1997 Volvo V70 T5 Leaking oil hose by the turbo

Hi,

I recently bought a V70 that suffers from oil leakage in the turbo area. Can someone help me identify which hose I'm concerned in the attached picture?

I've never fixed turbos before, so I need all the help I can get. Please see the attached pictures.

The hose/ pipe you are pointing at in picture #2 is a coolant line. I would guess that the oil is coming from the turbo internal seal. The pipe with the Allen heads coming off the bottom of the turbo is your oil return line and it looks clean.

I would inspect the rear exhaust cam seal for leakage. You may have a problem with your PCV pressurizing the crank case pushing or dislodging the cam seal. This will dribble down the rear cornor of the block and turbo.

First step is do a glove test of the PCV system. Then inspect around the cover plate of the Cam shaft position sensor for oil seepage.

I had oil issues similar to yours when I bought my 98 T-5. I replaced the rear cam seal and the turbo oil return gasket mentioned by the previous poster. I also switched over to high mileage motor oil appropriate for my climate (10W-40 for hot weather in LA). I use valvoline max life synthetic blend in the red bottle.

After those fixes 99% of my oil leaking issues went away. I still get that single drop coming from under the Turbo. However I have not seen a noticeable loss in oil since my last oil change (about 2,800 miles in significant stop and go traffic).

I'd start there since that stuff is easy.... The rear cam seal and turbo return gasket are really cheap parts and relatively easy to fix. Then double check your oil against what is recommended for your environment. I paid a shop to replace mine and they put in 5w-20 which would be grat if I lived in Sweden instead of LA!

Thank you so much for great answers. I'll check the PCV system again tomorrow. I've ordered Mobil Super™ 3000 X1 5W-40 today, and will change oil very soon.

The internal seal in the turbo sounds like a tricky fix to me? Is it ok to allow some oil leaks from the turbo? I can't even see oil spots when the car has been parked after a long ride, so maybe it's not to bad.
