I have a Volvo S60 T5 that has already done 398,000km. It still goes like a bomb and sounds great, but has a message that read "engine system service required" and it lately changed to read "reduced engine performance".
There is no obvious evidence of lack of power. Could it have anything to do with the electrics or maybe air hoses?

My 850 now has 273k on the clock (437000km) and is running as strong as ever.

My advice:
Regular oil changes 3000 to 3500 miles. Makes all the difference.
Also, change the tranny fluid every 30k and it will last a long time.

When you say change the transmission fluid every 30,000 miles are you talking about a simple drain and fill or are you talking about a full transmission flush

I did a flush every 30k from 60k on (the car had 42k when I bought it) and it seems to pay off.

Keep in mind though that this method is NOT recommended for cars with an uncertain history. If you have a higher mile car and the fluid looks really dark, you are better off doing a couple of "drain and fills" before doing a flush. There is a ton of info on this forum on this if you want to learn more.

I am about to cross 212,000 miles on by 850 Turbo.

I put together a target of repairs about a year ago, and I have done almost all of it now.
Belts, mounts, fluids, hoses, timing belt, abs and 02. I put in a new short ram intake and a tune on it.
She runs darn well.

I just did the drain and fill 3 times type of flush this month (once d&f per week for three weeks). I am a little nervous about trying the pump method for all the reasons given in the forum. My plan moving forward is to do one D&F per year (I go about 9,000 miles per year) and then doing the 3x D&F once every 30,000 miles and completely avoid doing the pump method all together. Does that sound like overkill?

My '98 V70 has 124k miles on it.

thanks for the input

We are a little off topic here, but I think your plan sounds reasonable.

Thanks! Yep sorry about the drift off topic... I want to hear more from people who have gotten more than 300k out of their cars... I love my volvo and want to keep it for a while!
