So I bought a new ETM at the pick & pull. When installed the rpms rev up and down on idle. Running the etm test in VIDA shows a diff of 0.90 degrees between the sensors. (limit is like 13)
I'm not sure how to interpret this. Did the previous owner put a wrong ETM in or is it fried?

Although it's more money than a lot of folks are willing to spend, that is exactly what I did and very happy with the xemodex ETM. I'll never have to worry about it again

The unit is from an S70 2000 NA, which is what I also have. I have bought several used ones that worked just fine.RussB wrote:So...you bought a used, untested ETM at the junkyard. Was the software mated to your car?

A xemodex is like $500. An etm from the junk yard is like $25.sk55 wrote:return it..

Not all same model year ETMs have the same firmware numbers. The ETM test will work fine even if firmware doesn't match your car; I do the test all the time. In Diagnostics-Network highlight the ETM icon and read off your original 2 x software numbers. Make sure you press UPDATE when you start Vida whenever you swap a module. PM Doublebug with the 2 x software numbers of your original ETM and he'll sort it out for you as long as you have an internet connection. I have no problems with junkyard ETMs also except for the programming of course.

Is there a way to tell if the unit is working properly, ie no internal circuit faults? Putting an etm with the incorrect software seems to set of three or four error codes?

Does it pass the 8 second whine and silence test when you power it up?
