2007 V70 2.5T engine seems 'unbalanced' under load

It's a 5 cyl.... inherently an unbalanced engine.

Why?

Fixed!

Replaced side engine mount, no effect, original was fine.

Replaced drivers side axle, 90% of vibration is gone. Huge improvement. There was a tiny amount of play in the tripod joint (inner part that mates to transmission). The play was in the bearings, I was worried that the splined connector would be worn but it seemed fine.

Still have not verified even compression but I'll get to it eventually. Runs great, rides smooth now. Still feel a slight rumble under load, perhaps the passenger side axle needs to be done also.

Also replaced all four springs (Eibach Pro Kit) and front struts. One strut was toast, one was fine. Rear shocks are fine and still in the car - they appeared to be in better condition than the new replacement Gabriels I bought...so I returned the Gabriels.

I have to check my mounts, our daily is getting some odd vibration at low- medium revs. Engine fine, power fine.

Your poly mounts could account for the balance of the vibes

Poly mounts were indeed accounting for the balance of the vibes. I recently removed a couple poly pieces.
Specifically this:

and now idle vibration is virtually gone.

Still have this on the car:

and also kept this (cheapo Ebay version) on the car:

but removed the poly larger bushing on the torque mount and replaced with original rubber one.

So, I'm happy with the vibration and mounts now, but still feel like the engine balance isn't as smooth as I'd like under load. Eventually I will get to compression test and possibly replace or clean injectors as preventative maintenance.
