What is the crud around the edge of the axle in front of the reluctance ring in the picture? As I recall I had a rubber cup at that surface on the '99. It was like a seal of sorts.

Nasty combination of rust and crap. No evidence of a seal; rubber, harp, or other.
There is actually a customer service bulletin on this in Alldata about adding this to cars.
I spent about 30 minutes chipping off the rust and wire brushing the hub back to serviceable and get a clean smooth mounting surface for the bearing

Update today - good news is I just tipped the axle too far and one of my balls got free..
Usually a good thing, but TMI for many.....
Im cleaning and repacking it this afternoon after a meeting.
Any recommendations on CV grease?

Nailed it - had to open the boot to put the CV back together, repacked, and installed hub in under 60 minutes. Woo hoo.
I have a 'no ABS signal' on the side I worked on, so I must have strained the wire or not gotten a good ground - easy fix.
I ended up using Valvoline Syn CV joint grease from my FLAPS with MoS2 inside.
I love CV joints - the mechanicals in these are beautiful.
Note - the passenger side outboard CV has to snap over an external snap ring on the driveshaft - it makes a nice click when it seats. You have to watch that you don't tip the internal part as your balls will tip out like mine. Lubricate well. Don't step on them if you drop them.

Wow, that axel really corroded. I live in the rust belt as well and my axel was clean. A bit of anti seize will prevent future headaches.
Yes, any high pressure grease with Molly should do.

I either didn't get a ground or pulled the wire on the right front ABS sensor as I am getting ABS errors for missing sensor, as well as P1550 from the ECU - I think thats a missing VSS code.
My AUTEL 801 software reports that as a boost pressure variance code, so I think thats a bad software map.
I should be able to resolve today.
New sensor is about 75 bucks but my indie Volvo probably has them used.
Testing sensor per mattymoo website, http://www.midwest-abs.com, is 900-1380 Ohms.
My AUTEL 801 cleared the ABS codes but they come back after the burp self test at 15 mph.

Bit of a curve ball on my new wheel bearing
The old on comes off with a External Torx E14 socket - these bolts needed to be PB-Blasted, rattled for a minute, then came off with an 18 inch breaker bar.
My replacement bearing (OEM FAG from eEuro) had socket screws which were slightly bigger than E14 - a 6 point 11mm hex socket worked fine for the high torque - which is 48 ft lbs plus 60 degree angle turn, lubricated. Thats probably an end torque of near 200 ft lbs

OKay - it cold wet and snotty outside.
Can someone in warm LA country tell me where the front passenger side ABS sensor connect socket is on the late P80s please?
I want to check resistance before I replace this one.
Ah, found it in Alldata...
