If you have power door locks with a key fob operator, hit "lock-unlock" five times. This clears the immobilizer

I would try that but the fobs don't seem to work. Stopped working shortly after I bought the car in February 2014. Thought maybe dead batteries but didn't need the remotes so didn't bother with new batteries. I've got the car battery neg cable unhooked while waiting for the tow truck. Will try to start it when he arrives. Just hook up the neg cable and try? or another step?

Immobilisers are different in '99 models.Cars have chipped keys and as long as the key transmits correct signal the car runs.If signal is missing from key to immo or from immo to ecu...it will start but dies after a second or two.

Btw....did you checked the fuses? There are few fuses for immobiliser.

Not sure what you mean by 'board display' and 'standby mode'? Do you mean turn the key on engine off and watch for something on the dashboard display? Or wait 3 minutes before turning on the key? Or?

No didn't check fuses. Are they labeled immobilizer? Located under hood? Will look. Immobilizer ring lights up.

Just checked fuse box underhood. Only one labeled immobilizer #4. 10A it's good.

Just wait around 3minutes before you turn the key to position II.

Check fuse list for immobiliser fuses, there should be three-four fuses for it.

Only 2 fuses found. Both good, but thanks for the suggestion Misha. Tow truck arrived, I hooked up the battery, waited 3 minutes and turned the key. BINGO, it's running fine. THanked the driver. I'll take it for a spin now and see what happens.

"If something doesn't hurt it means that it's pretty usefull".

When you arrive home, turn it off, wait a few minutes and then start it.If it starts and run, your problem is gone.

Did that. Started an ran OK but ABS light came on. Scanned and got code ABS-0011 Faulty sensor Left Front. Erased code. Took it for another spin and ABS light came on again along with check engine light. Read that and it says ECM-510D. Did not erase because the last time I tried to erase the ECM codes (ECM 720A and P10181) is when I got the no start condition. Then I started it again. 2 dash lights still on. Brakes still working fine. Not sure where to go from here other than drive it with the lights on or take it to a shop with a better code reader and more experience. Want to thank all who have helped me so far.
