2001 v70 xc awd Am I dealing with a rear axle problem?
Motor mounts were replaced. Still shaking in front when increasing speed. Tires have been changed from front to rear. Shifts Hard from stand still up until 45mph. RPM jumps up to almost 4. Loses power when climbing hills, runs just fine going on flat surface and downhill. No grinding or clunking noise. Left rear tire slowly loses air. Yes I changed the tires. Hand emergency brake was broke when I purchased the vehicle. Wondering what else I could try. Volvo mechanics are hard to come by in this area. Any ideas?

Is it the shaking you are trying to solve? This could be a misfiring motor or a bent wheel or bad CV joint

The shaking i can live with. It is the hard shifting that bothers me. I was told that the hard shifting could affect the tranny or leave me on the side of the road if the rear axle is causing the problem. The shifting causes the car to halt slightly. What would I check myself that would not be so expensive? I was thinking of doing a tune-up as that is needed anyways.
It does have a hesitation/surge feeling as it cruises along at 65.

Thank you. Now I need to find a volvo mechanic in my area. Hoping it doesn't cost too much. I will let the forum know how it turns out.

If the propshaft is shot that would cause shaking
FIRST thing to do is have it removed and see what you have

I had the codes run...3553 misfire cylinder 5....p0305 misfire cylinder 5...p0128 thermostat....could i just remove the catalytic converter myself? That only helps with misfiring...How does this explain the hard shifting...I was told it would cost me $1800 to replace the catalytic converter...My car is not worth putting that much into it...Any more ideas?
