1996 850 Need help finding pistons

Post by JayDub06 »

Hey guys I'm looking for after market piston heads and rods, looking for 81.5mm heads and 143mm (if possible 139mm could be feasible) If you have any ideas of where I can find some or links or anything. Trying to find these parts have been such a headache, any suggestions or info is welcomed. cheers!

Viva sells Wiseco pistons and I imagine others do as well. I've never used Wiseco pistons in a Volvo but they work great for hot rodding a Kawasaki 900 Jet Ski where I have used them.

There are other vendors as well. If you have a firesuit you can post the question over on VolvoSpeed and there are a few guys there that have built up some monster engines and I'm sure they can point you in the right direction and keep you from going down the wrong path. There are a couple of aftermarket guys that have slick websites but really crappy parts - I just can't remember who they are.

The guys on Volvospeed are OK but they can be a bit gruff. As long as you aren't easily offended you will survive.

Awesome thanks, I try to avoid posting in Volvo speed for that reason. I like the group here much more approachable. I have wiesco pistons in my subaru and they are pretty good, II just wanted to see if anyone here seen any kits for sale instead of getting them made to order. Appreciate the input.

You have some options:

1. Get a good used motor from junk yard and use it as a donor for pistons and conrods.

2. Ebay has some Mahle pistons for sales (I think they are new).

The 81.5mm piston is oversized, the market is limited and it will be difficult to find.
However, give RSI a call, they are in Portland OR, and they have direct access to Mahle distributor.
It won't be cheap but you should be able to get a set:

My guess is: about $100/oversized Mahle piston.

The Wiseco's definitely come oversized. I'm pretty sure Vivaperformance.com has them listed anyway and they also have beefier rods.
