At this time/age/mileage...it is best to replace both the reservoir + cap.
Use ONLY Volvo OEM resevoir + cap.
Reservoir is about $45-$50, cap around $15.

Is the car turbo? Did you disconnect the engine fan or ECT?

Fill the coolant system when the car is cold.

I didn't drain down the coolant to do the pcv. I refilled the tank``and burped the system. But the thermostat could be plugged. The car did sit for a few months till I got around to the job. Yes Robert, it is a turbo. No I didn't disconnect the fan or ECT. The top hose gets hot but I forgot to check the bottom hose. I'll do that when I get the new cap.
