S40 1.6 diesel 2005

Post by Murtb289 »

I have my s40 in the stealers for anti skid since Monday and they rang me today to say its the Egr valve that is causing it to come on its not in limp mode driving great
How come the Egr valve interferes with the abs should they not be seperate systems as one is safety and the other is economy

That is because DSTC system implementation in BCM. DSTC requires engine to control the torque properly.
In a case of bad EGR valve the engine goes to some limp home mode so cannot work properly with BCM.
If you have questions about Volvo firmware ask me. I may know an answer :)

Codes are p1412 p0404 and p0406 all Egr related and Volvo have said the anti skid is on the message screen because of the Egr valve

Usually message is because of BCM-0101 error code.
But they are related to Engine.

Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) information BCM-0101

Condition

Note! The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) applies only to cars with stability and traction control (STC) / dynamic stability and traction control (DSTC).
The engine control module (ECM) transmits a signal via the control area network (CAN) which indicates whether the engine speed signal or the torque signal to the brake control module (BCM) is correct or not. The brake control module (BCM) uses the engine speed (RPM) signal during control of the stability function.
The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the brake control module (BCM) registers that the engine control module (ECM) has transmitted a signal indicating that the engine speed (RPM) signal is implausible.
The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) can be diagnosed after the engine has been started.

Substitute value
Traction Control is blocked
Stability Control is blocked
Active yaw control is blocked.

Possible source
Fault in the engine management system.
Note! This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is not due to an internal hardware fault in the Brake control module (BCM) and must not be remedied by replacing the control module.

Fault symptom
The information lamp is lit
Traction control does not function
The stability control system does not function.

Anti skid message in your car means that BCM has error codes stored.
But the real issue is in your engine. That is reality and in this case dealer is right in saying that it is EGR related.
