2000 V70R - AWD fuel system priming

Post by scot850 »

Very close to being able to try to re-start the car. As all the fuel lines have been off the car, new lines and pump(s), what is the best way to get the fuel to the injector rail?

When you switch the ignition to II position, you jut pressurise the system then the relay kicks in and you still have air all the way back. Do you just need to leave the key at II and open the Shraeder valve at the fuel rail to prevent the fuel pressure build and catch any fuel once it comes through?

Guidance is appreciated.

Either:
- Jump the relay...or
- Turn key to position II for 5-10 sec, remove key. Then repeat the cycle a few times.
Don't worry about air, it will be pushed through.

Thanks. Option 2 sounds like the easiest. I take it I will know that the fuel has got there by checking at the valve in the fuel rail?

crank for 10 seconds, then confirm fuel at rail via Schraeder. Catch fuel in a rag that matches car color, of course.

Im almost going to miss this thread when you get this thing back on the road. I spent one long day on my rear suspension doing delta links, shocks, springs and mounts and that was enough.

Bonne chance!!!

You'll hear the pump load down as it pressurizes, or smell fuel when the leak starts spraying like on mine :)

Mine only took a few key turns to get it re-primed.

Need some video of the first start!

I'll look at the video suggestion when I get there. 'Just' have the muffler system to re-install. Hit a small snag today when cleaning the center joint of the muffler as I found the bolts supplied by Volvo are wrong for the center coupling. Part number on package is correct but bolts are not. Fortunately after a hunt I have found alternates. Tomorrow I plan to try to get the system back on and aligned.

Thanks for the notes on the start. I will first pull the fuel system relay/fuse and crank the engine a few times to build oil pressure, then try the fuel system prime methods.

I want to pull the fuel pump fuse to allow me to crank the car to build oil pressure prior to attempting to start the car.

I discovered the fuse (or fuses) are in the main fuse box (the funny kidney shaped one by the brake booster). Strangely the handbook says fuse 11 is fuel injectors and A/C relay, and 12 is fuel pump and fuel injection system. When I take the cover off, it says fuel pump, injectors and ignition coils are in positions 12 and 13.

Does this mean I have to pull 12 AND 13 assuming the cover is the one to go for?
