Is it necessary to get the amp from a C70 to make the 901 work?
I'm not really trying to do a full swap of all the speakers and whatnot.
Just found an SC901 in a wrecked C70 at the junkyard, so figured I'd grab it for $20 as well as the climate controls.

The SC-900 and SC-901 both need a separate amplifier to work as they have no pre-amp. Volvo sold 2 amplifiers, a 50W and a 40W, and both install and mount the same way under the passenger seat. If you already have Dolby you should have the amp already. Just look under the passenger seat near the center tunnel for a black box. Some cars earlier cars had the amp under the dashboard behind the radio, but if you have Dolby I'm not sure if this is possible in your case, as the Dolby unit mounts in the same space.
The most important part is that you have the wiring harness from the radio to the amp as it is obsolete now. IT is a bit of a pain to remove from a car as you have to pull the center console to get it out.
Neil.

If you are going to go back to PnP to pull an amplifier, You need to remove the RH under-dash cover (remove the glove-box liner and there should be 2 further Torx screws holding the cover on.
Remove the passenger seat, or at least remove the 2 front bolts, and the LH rear one, then you can pivot the seat back out of the way, then remove the center console. I find it easiest to remove the center ash tray below the radio. If you let the ash-tray come all the way out, there are 2 Torx screws on the face where the ash-tray slider closes to. Remove those, and the whole unit slides out.
Look at rspi's video on how to remove the center console from there.
Once the console is out, un-bolt (AND KEEP!!) the 2 bolts holding the amp to the floor, and disconnect the wiring harness from the amp. It is fiddly as the larger connector has a tab that needs to be depressed, and naturally they put it on the top so not easy to access!
Take a torch and if you have a trim removal tool that also helps as there are a couple of clips that need to be removed under the carpet. You may have to remove the bracket on the RH side of the console to remove the cable from behind it. There are 2 clips that push through the inner console by the side of the gear-shift. Take a flash-light and a pair of needle nose pliers to carefully depress the clips from the gear shift side and remove. If the clips break, you can always use a long zip-tie to replace them.
The 'head' end of the cable is behind the radio. Volvo wrap the connectors with a sticky foam which is a pain to remove. The cables separate just like the cable to the back of the radio. Remove the whole harness and you are good to go.
Basically, the harness is just a loop that connects to the 2 original rectangular connectors to the back of the radio, loop down to the amp and back up to the radio and plug in the back of the radio like the original cables.

this evening when I started the car and turned on the radio, it asked for the code, which I had already called the dealership for.
Entered the code, and the radio appears to function.
However, I have no antenna mast, and didn't have anything to test the cd player or tape deck with...
I'm still operating as though I need to snag that amp from the C70 for the speakers to be powered though, correct?
Also, is the Dolby Processor going to do anything for the stock S70 speakers in place?
I do have a set of NIB 8" mid-range woofers for the rear deck

Do you have the center Dolby speaker in the top of the dash?
I can't speak for the Dolby 'enhancement' as I have never had a Volvo with it. I generally have found the standard system/speakers are fine for me. The center dash Dolby speaker is unique and is of a good quality from what I have read.
If I recall, the additional amp harness has a connector with a single yellow/black connection. If I recall, that is for the antenna drive.
The fact everything powers up is good, but you will need that amp connected to prove it is all working.

I know Matty Moo had a center speaker dash cap at one point that he was looking to sell. I'm not sure if he still has it or not.
