V70 Cabin heating system problem

I'm about to go dig out the Vida/Dice and go check on this problem.

As many will know I have been re-building the rear sub-frame, axles and fuel/emission system on this car. Having finally (after 9-10 months) got it back together and running the heater fan is not working at all in any setting (Auto or manual).

I have not worked on any of the A/C or heating system, and the car has been in a dry garage. The 2 orange lights are blinking on start up.

Before I go chasing ghosts, can the more knowledgeable of you out there in Volvo land, let me know if there is a 'wait-time' after having the car apart for so slow with the battery disconnected, before the system starts to work? I would have thought the fan would run in manual setting no matter what?

Car had a new cabin temp sensor and fan motor (Volvo) last year and has maybe done 1000km since.

I'll do the Dice check, and I have loads of spare fan motors, relay packs and cabin temp sensor and even incoming temp sensors as well as a couple of ECC units. But like I said, is there something simple I have missed here?

As predicted the car continues to be a royal PITA!!

I would first check if power is getting to the fan motor. On one of the 2000 V70s the fan was intermittent. Had power to the fan, found a slight bit of corrosion on fan side plug. Cleaned up plug and has worked fine since. I did not have the lights blinking on the HVAC head, I would pull the HVAC head unit clean the plugs and reinstall.

Even manual mode, the motor is controlled by the ECC brain. Definitely hook up VIDA and clear the ECC codes before you plan on replacing anything,

Thanks guys for the input.

I hooked Dice up and it gave a code something like CCM-443 with the description that the Fan current is too high. Heck that sounds like a faulty fan which has very little use, but I wonder if the fact the car has been sitting for 9-10 months nose down. Perhaps the fan has stuck. I'll pull the fan tomorrow and clean all the contacts. Already had the ECC and temp controller out and cleaned contacts. No difference.

Normally this job is fairly quick on these P80's but this car has a multi-change CD player in the glove box which adds about 20 minutes to the otherwise simple job. I'll leave the CD player and glove box/under-tray out until all is working again.

Hey Neil with the kick panel out I think you can reach up and unplug then plug in the fan motor. It may be worth a try before taking all that stuff off.

No with this one you have to pull it all out. Anyway, it was not the fan motor. Tried 3 with the same results. Nothing.

Would appear that it is a total failure of the resistor pack for some reason. As soon as I swapped it out for a used spare it works fine. As to why it decided to fail now I have no reason to understand this.

All up and looks good for now.

Quick add on here. I replaced my fan over a year ago and found I still had the code stuck in the ECC 18 months later! I have another code for an intermittant Recirc door so I was used to the 20 second LED flash. Don't freak if you still have the flashing LEDS after your resistor pack/ power transistor job
