Manual Transmission cars with with thicker cv shaft, as you already know. Automatic shafts will fit your car fine, in cause you can't find the boot you need.

Try the GKN-Lobro catalogue.
Volvo starts at page 1276...

http://www.gknservice.com/Catalogues/Dr ... 276-1277/z

A boot is basically defined by 3 parameters:
- Length
- Diameter 1 (shaft)
- Diameter 2 (CV Joint)

As long as you find a rubber boot with similar dimension (even 1-2mm off is not a big deal), it will fit.
Please post back what you find.

PS: I have never seen a shaft diameter of 33mm!

I'd suggest you go to the parts department and ask to see the parts book.

Only manual cars got the thicker axle. Factory manual cars in United States is like maybe 1% of total sold. On top of that, most repair shop/people doesn't replace only the boots, they replace the entire axle, this is why for most people, it isn't an issue. As I said before you can get a pair of automatic axles and they will work in your car. As for strength, I never not heard anyone broken a CV shaft in a Volvo.

Only part number I came up with is 271827. No dimension is listed.

Here's a company's listing of CV boot dimension in inches that you can see if you can match anything up.

Only manaul cars got the thicker shafts.

The driveshafts are only slightly different. The manual is thicker (top) but the donor car’s CV joint boots were in worse nick so I stuck to my auto driveshafts for now. I’ll probably rebuild the manual ones and swap later.

From top to bottom, my auto, donor manual, spare auto. Only the outer half of the shaft appears to differ.

thanks I have given up trying to repair the Manual driveshaft and will repair the auto ones that are currently on the car, I looked at new OEM shafts and they are too expensive.

Hi there. Here are the part numbers you need to rebuild the manual axle:

Repair kit inner manual turbo: 31256227
Repair kit outer turbo all: 31256237

I believe you can easily find EMPI kits in the U.S. but GKN/Lobro are much better if you can find them. I can get them over here if needed.

271827 used to be the Volvo pn for a kit that contained both inner and outer but I believe they discontinued it hence the above part numbers.
