Starting issue XC70 2.4t 2001

Post by b4nditas »

I have just bought Volvo XC70 2.4t 2001 . At first engine started easily and worked well, no errors and so one. On my way home engine error appears so I stopped the car to check it. When I tried to start the engine again it was starting exactly as it is shown in the video . And now sometimes engine starts quickly with no struggle, but some times it takes a wail to start it.

do you have any ideas what can it be?

Today I had done diagnostic and it said that there is oxygen sensor error. The mechanic delited error and i have driven around 200 km and error did not show again. But still it does not start easy.

What was the error code?
There can be any number of things. I had similar issue, very unpredictable -- could be MAF sensor failing. It measures incoming fresh air.

Oxygen sensor would not cause engine to not start, unless.

RPM jumping is an indication of failing CPS or starter itself, if I remember correctly.

I agree with VTL, temp issue is stuck open thermostat...weird starting behavior sounds like failing crank or cam position sensor.

.

Hi b4anditas, don't repeat my mistakes, DON'T EVER ever ever START by replacing parts before you're 200% certain your diagnostics are correct.
Crank-crack-no-start can not be caused by a sensor (MAF, MAP etc) that if removed would not affect the engine from starting.
It could be fuel related (pump. filter and wiring)
Few winters back I had the same problem. The wires from fuel sensor were burnt. I replaced the fuel level sensor, since it was NOT reparable. And that was AFTER unnecessary replacement of crank sensor fuel filter and few more stuff.
In my S60 2002, its under the rear seat. Your must be accessible from the trunk. Check it.
These cars have a lot of wires [sometimes I think not less than a commercial airlines ;-) :D ]
If you think some parts must be replaced; try trying them out in a junk yard before buying one.
The correct diagnostic will save $$$$$.
Good luck and keep us posted how you resolve the problem.

Today I checked spark switches some of them were white and some black. Tomorrow I will buy new ones and see how engine is reacting.
