I'm probably way too late for this thread but did you know you can ship big heavy bulky stuff by Greyhound? You have to pick it up at the bus portal but it's cheapest by far.

Really? That's good to know for the future, though!

Plan on probing the ECU board this Saturday in hopes of finding a broken wire or bad ground. Hopefully this will get me to the bottom of this. Wish me luck!

Something I found out yesterday. I dropped off sheet metal at Fastenal, here in Charlotte and they will ship to any Fastenal in the country. The cost for this package on a pallet, weight about 75 pounds, shipped from here to Kentucky, was $75.00.
Not a bad price compared to the others.

Found one more broken wire (pink one running down the passenger fender from the ECM) and found the ECM/TCM ground wires are a little frayed. I plan on repairing those and their retaining ring this week.
Maybe this will be the answer to my EFI-335/P1618/transmission issue...

Just a quick update...
The car is currently sitting on my driveway in a few pieces. I plan on checking out the individual wires' continuity sometime before the end of the weekend. Hopefully, that will lead to an answer. After that, I will move on to the engine work, which will be the PCV and an oil change, which will hopefully lead to me figuring out that horrible tapping on the top end. Hopefully not a valve issue. Once that's taken care of, I will have to get the car on the road to find out anything else. This can't happen soon enough...
In other news, I got a copy of VIDA today to go over some diagrams. But, of course, it doesn't work with Windows 10, and my Windows XP desktop's CD drive doesn't want to work today. Always something...

Got a set of fog lights today. I put on one, and the other is going on tomorrow, because it's a little dark now :D .
Only problem now is I forgot the bulb sockets. I need to get a set online, even though they cost more than the entire fog light assembly cost me. Hopefully next weekend I'll get back on the wiring. It has to be a connection on the ECU/TCU boards. I need to move on to other stuff... like the engine. I'm sick of screwing around with these wires.

Working on cleaning up the garage a little bit to move the car in there this weekend, hopefully. Maybe a run to the pull a part to get a new TCU connector and wires, and hopefully I'll be able to replace all of that and my problem will be fixed. I did find another broken wire yesterday, but that didn't do anything for me. With the car in the garage, I'll be able to take it apart and not worry about putting it back together each time I'm done for the day. Hopefully it won't be in there too long and I can get to changing that PCV!

I'm VERY happy to say that I have fixed my transmission! It turns out that the wires at the ECU box were not the problem. There is a square connector on the driver's side of the cooling fan that had a pin/wire not in all the way. I just messed around with it a little to put it back in, and it turns out that was the problem! I got in the car, turn on the ignition, and the up arrow light was on, as well as the orange light on the W button. I started it up, pushed the W button, and the light went off. I drove it around the block, and the transmission works great! It shifts smooth as butter, and the car has got some nice low end power compared to my cousin's T5!
Now that that's done with, I have a few things I need to add to my list that need attention:
Struts are shot, they click real bad on tight turns and on bumps
Strut mounts
Oil change (cheap filter drips when the engine's hot... I knew that anyway)

I am going to leave the battery on now, just to see if it keeps draining. Hopefully, it's nothing, but I need to find the source of the drain. There is a little spark when I put on the negative terminal. The doors are all shut, lights are all off. Other than that, I need to get the paint work done, get sockets for my fog lights, get a new bumper cover, and get that rattle can crap off my driver's side. And a windshield... it's pretty bad.

Great news!! A little spark on the terminal is normal, anything up to 50 mA draw is ok, so don't go crazy chafing it until you measure it (negative terminal off, ammeter in series between ground point and negative battery terminal.)
