Hi im new here and I will introduce myself later on tonight as im in a hurry to leave for work. I usually post on volvo-forums.com under the same screen name here is my problem im not finding much help on that site anymore. the only suggestion I got was checking the fuel pump relay. I just replaced the cmp sensor and the trouble code hasnt came back ive only driven it about 10 miles or less since replacing the cmp sensor. Heres the post verbatim from volvo-forums.com that i posted.
Hey Guys. I finally got the money up to replace the cmp sensor. I did buy a used one but it had a warranty hehe. I put it on today. Anyway. While driving the car will turn off (very emberassing in front of hot chick at bank window) and usually after a few tries it will restart. (This is the same *** before I replaced the cmp sensor) This is dangerous though cause it happened on the main drag through town and people had to go around me till it started. While trying to start it it will make all normal car starting noises but it will also make a electrical "grrr" noise that will keep up for a few seconds after everything has quit when I let the key off. Here are my codes: I do need to reset them and I will see if I get anymore.
A1: 1-1-4
A2:
A3: 2-1-3
2-1-4
4-4-4
A4:
A5:
A6: 3-1-4
A7: 1-1-3 <--- That one I cant find anywhere.
So If anyone could help out a desperate volvo lover please do, I insist.
Update: My mechanic said this was out of his league and he didnt know of anyone in the area who worked on Volvo's but he said that what I am explaining sounds like its an ignition problem since the engine just abruptly turns off. I May have to go to the Volvo dealership and get them to do a diagnostic on it, that should help find the problem right?

i would concentrate on the A6 code... camshaft position senson missing and the A2 code... hopefully that came up as 1-1-1.
If this is the case then the sensor located around the brake fluid reservoir and the right side of the engine to the part closest to the firewall.
That grrr sound.. where does it come from? It could be a number of things which are normal to volvos...

Hey don't feel bad. I've got the dreaded 314 code also. Gonna be ordering a Camshaft sensor as I've tried everything else such as cleaning connections and so on. Will let u know how i make out. oh also the cable wire for the crankshaft position sensor (RPM sensor in some books) needs to be zip tied away from the distributor cap as best you can. Try unhooking the connector from the bracket and tie it away from the cap. Found this in a Technical service bulletin from 1995. this TSB refers to code 214

I replaced the sensor and the code went away but the problem still persists. I will try to zip tie it away from the distributor but I dont understand why you would do that.
