Xc70 2004 d5 ? Ecu problem

After reading on this forum about resetting the ecu , people suggested touching the plus and minus battery cables together which I tried but now the car will not start, it turns over ok but will not start, after you release the key some of dashboard lights flash and I can hear clicking sounds from the fuse box area within the engine compartment which continues to click for about 10 seconds, have I damaged the ecu or is there another explanation? I may need a good Volvo mechanic to sort this anyone know of someone in Swindon area?
