On my daughter's '98 I think my local indy charged her $40.00 to look up the PIN number and mate an ebay remote to it. Any shop with a Volvo Scan Tool can do it in just a few minutes. Just be sure to get the correct remote.

Get it done and then go back to the dealer and let them know how much money they lost. Social media is also good to to scold the grifters. One dealer in town tried the same trick with me...wanted 100 per blank plus 125 per blank to program. My indie did it for 40 per and no charge for programming in exchange for two weeks flexibility. He waited until he had a bunch of jobs then bought three daysVIDA to run all his jobs that week. I was overseas do dropped the car at his place and saved parking fees. And he dropped me at the airport...

Sorry bring this up from graves. I thought as i end up here with duckduckgo and as this post i disagree. Its pure simplicity.
I installed aftermarket one for fun because i didn't or couldn't get now yet remotes for mine and i had this from my earlier car.
Negativities are for this that usually these systems wont detect if you did use door's lock cylinder to lock or unlock so they are dump if state changes without them. So you need then use first other button to bring this dummy system to right state to lock or unlock locks.
Volvo 850 system of central locking are pure simple. Lock AND Unlock signalling are done with SINGLE wire. There is with Estate (855?) 5 door locking system 3 'signal' wires from 'master' solenoids to main control unit.
Pick one of these for your aftermarket locking system:
GN-BN (Rear / trunk (what to call in english))
GR-R (Driver / LEFT)
BL-P (Wife / RIGHT)
If you close all door latches and cut any one of above three wires your locks will LOCK.. Additionally if you bring Earth (just for a *beeb*) to same wire.. locks will UNLOCK.
Now you know how operate that!
You need detect your aftermarket system relay system.
Here is mine raw version:

Normally its switching relay so..
Close button relay NC - contacts between original (one of three signal wires) wire which you will cut (NC contact opens -> Doors locks)
Open button relay's NO contacts between GND (Earth) and this same wire (Wire gets Earth signal -> Door opens from lock state)
.. Thats all.
Now you know how to wire any lock systems in no time to these. Wires are to be found at drivers foot area below steering wheel.
Again sorry to bring up this from graves. I thought share this here. I didn't search much where put this and if this was told here anywhere already.. sorry!
