Cylinder head alignment studs
Greetings. Happy Holidays. Do the two alignment studs on engine block ,that two of the head bolts go thru, serve any other purpose other than alignment of the head ? Thanks

Thanks for reply. I noticed that my block was missing one. It was still in old head. Machine shop suggested removing them, due to resurfacing of head. Studs could cause overheat due to being removed for RR. He said the stud would be at factory specs , causing gap between head and block due to the surfacing of head. Thoughts and opinions respected.

The dowels are not as tall as the machined bore in those locations in head. You can cut the head and the dowels will not stop the head from closing down on gasket against block. The dowel is the same for any 850/s60/v70/s80/s40/v40/v50/c70/c30/xc90 block 4, 5, or 6 cylinder "white" engine.
