1998 V70 dirty fuel injector ports

Post by brunocerous »

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone might have a good suggestion on how to clean the fuel injector ports. I read someone mention brake parts cleaner and compressed air, although my thought was carburator cleaner. Would either of those work, or is there something that works best?

In the process of replacing my PCV system, which has not gone as hoped so far https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =1&t=73603 , I noticed that my fuel injector ports were filthy. Part of the plastic cover on the ignition wires had crumbled off and settled in the little grooves around the holes.

Here's a photo. Any help, as always, would be greatly appreciated.

A little Scotch Brite should clean them up. I would do it with the intake manifold off of the car so that residue doesn't migrate into the cylinders.

Did that manifold come from a junkyard? Even old cars with a lot of miles, I find the seal bores to be clean and shiny

That sounds perfect. I'll try that. Thanks much!

Nope, it's original to the 1998 V70. I was surprised how dirty it was, too. Could be in need of new O-rings, I suppose.

I used a pressure washer on mine, off the car of course. The inside of the intake manifold had about 1/4" of grime built up inside.

Looks like you may have routed that PCV tube through the wrong intake port. Looks stressed, should it be through the first hole?

I would vacuum the area with a shop vac and leave it alone.
