without any warning cruise will just stop working.
sometimes will start again by hitting the on button, sometimes it wont.
it cuts out at least 50% of the time I use it- no codes.
where do I start with this repair?

Sensor at booster is a good place to start. Item #7 in the diagram below, unless you cruise with foot on brake pedal at the same time. It would make 50% about right.
