My guess is that even if everything comes back clean they will flunk you on the test since the Check Engine Light is inoperative. I relamp the whole instrument cluster when I have them out. Except for the Service light. On that one I take the bulb out and stomp on it to make sure it can't find its way back into the socket. Also change the lamp in the lower temp or INFO section (I'm not sure which version you have) and the lamps behind the gauges.

The requirement for the light to be operational is a guess on my part, we don't screw with testing at all where I live. It would make some sense though.

If your odometer isn't working this is a dandy time to fix that as well.

Can run without replacing the PCV for a bit, but prolonged operation is advised against since the engine can be building crankcase pressure which can blow out oil seals. In the short run, lift up the engine oil dipstick above the sealing o-ring and replace gently without fully seating it. Crankcase pressure will vent through the dipstick tube.

You should be able to drive it as long as you have insurance and a recent proof of purchase.

They do tailpipe sniffing here as well. My PCV is serviceable and all vacuum lines are in good shape and my car barely passes each year. I finally replaced an under sized catalysis converter, hopefully that will help my next test.

The CEL not working is likely one of the fails, even though they will NOT use the obd2 port to scan the system for the test.

Great news at the 1st of January :)

I got mostly all of the broken vacuum lines fixed (plenty of them where broken) and I changed the ECT plus thermostat. Code P0117 disappeared :)

I still have code P0326 (Knock Sensor) going on where I will check the connections soon.

Next steps will be:
- PCV exchange
- eventually Knock Sensor exchange
- check EVAP system

After that I should be good to go to the SMOG check :)

Thank you here again for you support so far. All of you have been a tremendous help on my journey through my car.

Wish you all a happy 2016!

What brand is thermostat & ect sensor?
I hope you bought 87 degrees Celsius thermostat since it's correct one for turbo.
How are your spark plugs?

Happy hollydays to you too!

Check the gap on the plug electrode, observe the color (are the ends brownish or black?), whether or not there is any residue or gunk on them. Also what brand are they? A couple pics of them would get you a lot of informed feedback.
