Yes, 0.028 is the correct gap, give it a check. Autolite platinum are decent plugs, I agree with abscate to sort out other things, there is no rush to replace them.

If/when you buy Volvo plugs: Your owner's manual says to replace the Volvo branded plugs every 30k miles. Actually I usually run them longer than that, but would never wait anywhere near as long as 100k! Or maybe misha meant 100k km; that I could see that is more like 60k miles.

By the way, a reminder to everyone, this is the exact plug Volvo sells for turbos, if anyone wants to save a few bucks:

Yes...i meant 100k km but i usually replace them around 70k just for precaution.

Volvofornia....if hoses from tank to canister are connected and if hose from canister to manifold via el.valve is connected. One port on the canister should remain open since it's venting to atmosphere.
Newer cars just have a partially opened plastic cap to protect canister from being clogged with dirt.

Im confused. As far as I know (and have seen so far) there should be a valve connected to the Air port. The part which you see in the link. Are there different models out there because there are also videos on YouTube which describe how to check this valve. I might start a new thread for this.

It's a shut off valve not the valve which connects intake manifold and canister.
Shut off valve sits somewhere in the fender and later cars dont have it...at least in Europe.
The valve i'm talking about is located behind driver's side headlight a bit towards to radiator.

I wonder if there are different set-ups for evaporator system. My 850 is Mot.4.4 and don't have it.It have an opened port at top of the canister for venting to atmosphere.

All right, just to give a heads up on the spark plugs. I decided to check the gap today and most of them where fine while one (the middle one) was way of and to wide open (around .034). After putting everything together the motor sounds slightly better but I still feel something is going on.

I try to check the Knock Sensors tmw but I dont know how to reach them without taking the manifolt out. Tried to reach them from the bottom with my hands but it seems not possible. Anybody a suggestion how to check them?

If your car isn't running perfectly yet, ignore them. It's very rare they cause problems.

If you have any stumbling, misfiring, etc that can cause a knock sensor code which is false. I had them on my 1999 for two years with a flakey CVVT and no misfiring. I'm guessing the software code for the knock sensor P code is not robust

Ok, I made a video this morning to show you guys how the motor sounds after the first start. The sound comes and goes and disappears after around 5 minutes. Maybe some ideas on this?

Engine Cold

Engine after 5 minutes

The first 5 minutes sounds not good for me. After the motor is warm it sounds ok for me. What are you thoughts?

What I did so far:
- replaced vacuum lines (I just saw another one broken. Need to get the tube from the dealership)
- checked spark plugs (gap was way off at 2 of them - now fixed to 0.028 each)
- new oil (M1 10-40 HM) plus oil filter

Still need to do:
- get rid of low octane fuel in the motor and fill up with 93
- check spark wires, cap and radiator
- maybe use Seafoam?
- maybe use BG MOA?

Anything else you could think off?

Thats not pinging, which is pre-ignition noise, thats valve noise. If the car has been sitting a long time, thats normal for high mileage vehicles.

+ 1 with abscate on this. This is fairly normal with old valves on these cars. Audi's used to do the same when they sat for a while. One they warm up they quieten down. Wear is a big part of this, but also this can be a sign that the 'O' ring seals between the oil pan and the block have shrunk allowing the oil pressure to drop. What oil filter did you use? These engines are very particular what brand you use if not Volvo. There is a valve in the better oil filters that hold some of the oil pressure in the head to reduce this problem on start up. Once the oil is warm then it flows better.
