81 245DL power steering unit questions

Apologies in advance for not knowing much about this topic. My power steering pump (possibly rack) went out on my wagon (power steering is out and refilling the reservoir just makes the fluid gush out of the bottom over a couple hours). The shop said they wanted to replace the entire rack, but they don't make the part anymore. so they had to order a similar part AND a mounting kit to make it fit (does this sound familiar to anyone?)
my brother (gave me the car, usually does my repairs but is in a different state) got pissed and said they were going to mess up the car and charge me $500. told me i only needed a new pump and need to find the unit from a junked model and get someone to rebuild mine using parts from the old one. i've been calling to junkyards in the area but i'm having a hard time finding any that old. pretty sure i have the non-saginaw pump from the early 80's models with the internal reservoir. the closest part i found was the part with a remote reservoir (i have no clue if the pumps are the same in the different units and i honestly feel dumb asking).
hints on finding old parts from junked volvos?
advice on replacing the entire modded rack for $500 vs. getting someone to rebuild it (providing I can find the part) for under $200?

Over the years, Volvo may have changed OEM suppliers, so on the rack is an ID number. Also, in your year, they used a GM power steering pump.

I've got a complete setup on my retired 1984 244, but its too cold to pull that stuff off. Chances are, a new seal kit should be installed on it, as any used setup should have done before installation.
