Do you have more than one key for the car? I had to get a replacement key for my 2000 R (as a bypass for the remote start) and planned to use one of the work originals as the sacrificial key. However, when the new key arrived, I took it to Volvo to code, but when I went to use the key it would just spin around. Looking carefully at the key I could see it had been cut poorly on one side and the 2 sides were misaligned. Swapped the 'NEW' key for the worn one and all was well. Volvo did offer to get another key, but I couldn't be bothered to disassemble the dash again to get the hidden key out as it requires a lot of removal to find/access it.

Have you made sure the glovebox light isn't staying on when the glovebox is shut? That can be a source of dead batteries.

I have more than one key, I'll try a different key if it spins. But there's a hidden key i the dash?

Haven't checked if its the glovebox, I assume I have to use a multimeter to check and then remove the relay/ fuse to compare?

Thanks for the suggestions.

No there is not a spare key in your dash, it is only in mine to allow for a remote starter to bypass the chip in the key.

The reason for suggesting trying another key is to see I it may just be a worn key that needs to be replaced rather than the ignition barrel.

You are correct that if you do a current draw test, you can isolate the circuit that may be draining the battery. Only caution here is never open a door or switch on something that takes a high current draw while your tester is still connected or you will either fry the tester or at least blow the internal fuse if it has one.

If you can identify the circuit (if there is one) that is draining the battery, then you can isolate the item that is the issue. The glove box light is a good culprit, also I've had problems with a built in door opener in the sun-visor, and the sun-visor light in the built in mirror.

To easily check the glovebox light, just leave your
phone in there while recording video. Boom - Done.
( Works for checking your fridge light, too! )

Been using a different key. Pretty sure it's the ring that's bad. It doesn't stay locked going below the "0" and you can pull out the key but the orange and green light of the temperature controls stay on (which will eventually drain the battery), until you fiddle with the key a few times and the light goes off when you pull it out.

Had an issue today where the car would not start. It didn't make the clicking sound when you hit "iii," after trying a few more times I took out the fuse for the engine operation and this time when I turned the key it started.

Also looks like I'm missing the relay for the starter location 16 http://new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs/199 ... 70_102.htm is that normal?

Anyway might sell, seems likes there's more codes than I understand. Got a new one called "N/A?"
