Hi,
I'm right about to start the job to replace the Exhaust and intake CAM seals on a 2004 XC90 2.5T FWD. However, I hear there's a T50 bolt that's going to take upwards of 100ft-lbs of force. I do not want to strip the bolt.
I have a few Harbor freights really close buy. I was curious if anyone has any experience with the HF torque set:
http://www.harborfreight.com/9-piece-38 ... 67887.html
I was thinking this specific set because:
1. It's cheap
2. Looks sturdy
3. Looks short enough to possibly be useful for the serpentine tensioner
I know there are higher quality equipment out there - craftsman, snap-on. I'm not looking for the Rolls-Royce of tools... just looking for the set that'll do the job, every time.
Please let me know if you have any experience on this job. Any advice (regarding tool or even the job itself) would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I have some experience with the job, the actual size of the socket you need is a T55. You also need the cam locking tool and some patience. There is a specific procedure on re-aligning the vvt, which can be found on this site.

Make sure you spend time reading through the thread below...
Large oil leak after replacing exhaust camshaft (cvvt) seal - help needed!

PS: Re Cam Seals, stick to Corteco brand, which is OEM. Search rmeuropean dot com to see if they have it. Do NOT use SKF.

Also, when installing any CAM seals, watch for seal "folding over". The idea is to oil the shaft beforehand and go very slow, making sure the seal does not fold over. More detail below:

Also, search forum for PVC Coupler (The plumbing coupler used in drain/waste system) I used as a tool to press it in.

Thanks! I'm pretty familiar (very familiar) with plumbing. Which size coupler did you use? I saw people mention 1.5" PVC coupler for a different vehicle (S60?), but mentioned the XC90 would require a different size. They didn't mention which. I'll go searching if you don't recall which size coupler. There aren't many so I could go out and buy a 1.5" and 2" coupler from the orange store.cn90 wrote:Also, when installing any CAM seals, watch for seal "folding over". Go to rmeuropean dot com, and search for Corteco Cam Seals.
Corteco is what came from factory. About $8/each.
You will regret later if you use Elring, it will likely leak (search matthews Volvo forum and you will see).
Once you receive the Corteco seals, bring it to Home Depot etc. and find a PVC coupler that matches.
