1998 awd disconnect!

Hi all, I'm thinking of buying a 1998 xc70 in good condition,with history. At the moment I have a 97 v70 2.5t that needs a fair amount of work,My question is, If the awd packs up, can you disconnect the awd & just run on fwd, does this work over the long term & never repair the awd, I've sort of heard that can. Thanks

Yes - These were originally designed as FWD only platforms.
Pulling the driveshaft is a common "fix" for AWD issues.
'98 V70 R - Well Equipped for Life Up North... ;)
