Hi, I have a 2002 Volvo v70. When I bought it, it came with one key and two remote fobs.
I bought a 2nd blank key and had it cut today but the shop couldn't programme it and everyone I've tried said dealership job.
Looking on ebay if I buy the £70ish 2014 VIDA diagnostic tool would it be able to programme the key?
It doesn't say on any of the ebay listings whether it can programme keys but assuming it won't be able to.
Would rather buy the software / diagnostic tool on ebay and do it myself than pay the dealership a small fortune, would also then have the software to use again if needed.
Any past experience with getting a second working key please fire away.

Programming keys via VIDA requires working subscription. So in a case of one time job the price will be almost the same as dealers one.
Plus there can be limitation for programming keys for end users. F.e. in US you need to have special locksmith licence.

If you have questions about Volvo firmware ask me. I may know an answer

Hopefully you saved the package that the key came in. It has a set of numbers on it that the dealership must have in order to mate the key to the car.

Take working chip, glue to coil on ignition, hide coil under dash, then use keys without chips, make as many as you need, cose me as low as $26 at dealer to cut, blanks as low as $5 on ebay
Then I bought second coil and put back on ignition so it looks like it is still around key slot.
When a alarm company put in remote start, they put a full chipped key in a box, place it under dash, and leave in car all the time.
Same idea, just done different way, and if you ever lose key there is a full key under dash

If you loose the key and the hideakey is under dash then you have to break into car, ($$), to get that key.
My spare key is in a magnetic box under the car, easy to reach yet hidden, (hide a key box). Have kept a spare this way for many years. Needed it several times over the years and was very happy to be able to reach under edge of car and get it.

Some web sites say you program key by inserting in ignition switching on for 10 minutes or so back off and on and do in under 45 seconds and pressing odometer button.
Can this be done to programme key this is a royal P.I.A.! I'm not paying £420.00 to dealers I ordered a key programmer from China is this just another B.S. product?
Many Thanks

Hi Guys,
It's me again it is damp and miserable here in England never stops raining wettest year on record!
Is it possible to buy a after market key fob and programme it myself with existing fob which works fine? And can anyone recommend a unit hopefully that doesn't cost an arm&leg to achieve success?
