Water Inside '95 850

Following rain, the passenger side floor gets water. I had assumed that leak comes from top of windshield. Bought and applied clear silicon three times but water has continued to appear in same area - only the front passenger floor. No other part of vehicle gets wet.

Should I be looking to replace windshield? There is black stripping at the top of windshield that needs to be replaced. Does anyone know where to purchase that, as well as, the stripping which runs at both sides atop the car?

Could it be anything other than the windshield?

Does the car have a moonroof?

There have been a couple of threads recently on the same subject with several suggestions on where to check.

My 95 did the exact same thing. Here's the fix.
Number one, the vehicle is sensitive to being parked nose downhill, this made mine leak worse, #2 the moonroof tends to close too far if you hold the switch until the motor stops. I found that making sure the window comes to rest Completely flush with the surrounding gasket is very important to keeping your Volvo dry. There are no over the counter sealants that can be applied over top of ANY part of your glass that will reliably stop water. This is a job for a pro. So don't waste your money or ruin your paint(more importantly)

I had the same problem with our '95 850 Turbo wagon years ago, and it turned out to be a cabin filter issue. The filter was crudded up with dirt, leaf matter, etc. and had blocked the drainage tube. Easy solution: filter replacement after clean-up, and removal of water under floor mats, solved the problem in my case.

You can easily replace the filter from the outside, with the hood open, after taking out torx screws securing the black plastic between the windshield and engine compartment, under the wipers. Don't lift the wipers up before you start - they may damage the hood. Sliding the plastic shield forward,or lifting the right-hand side out of the way, allows you to pull the old filter out. Make sure the area beneath it is cleaned out, and that the drain tube is not clogged. Replacing or checking the filter may have to be part of a routine if parking where leaf debris accumulation could be an issue.

Trust this helps - and hope it avoids more drastic windshield sealing strip or moon roof work.
