2000 s80 After market CAT help

Okay so failed emissions the other day and so thought I would test the o2 sensors and had to replace two of them. I waited for computer to reset and cel code went off again so I will bite the bullet and purchase new one I took exhaust system off once so I know I can again did not look that dirty inside but what do I know but when I looked. It looked like a mechanic cut a box after the two o2 sensors they cut it out my question is that a cat and is that why I am not passing emissions or is it because it is old any needs to be replaced seeing which one I should buy
