02 S60 Oil Pressure Low Message??

Post by jeffriehunter »

So far we have dropped the oil pan twice, resealed the pickup tube twice, replaced the crank seal and oil pump......but the low oil pressure message still pops up at idle only. If you even give it a smidgen of gas pedal it goes off. Sounds fine and otherwise seems ok. Any thoughts on what or where to go next?

The P80 manual used to say a flickering oil light at idle on a hot engine is ok, as long as it goes out when revved.

Going to replace sensor tomorrow......but for some reason (and I am no expert by any means) we think this is somehow related to the back pressure....which we can't figure out. Several threads i have read talk about PVC routing through the oil pan but I can't find where or how.

Pulled pan again today and the oil tube is sealed up great, but don'tsee anything relating to a pcv route through the pan. But for some reason Iit is pulling oil into the motor through the intake and/or turbo.....and the turbo has been recently rebuilt.

Someone found the relief valve on the oil filter housing (the valve being inside the oil pan) was stuck open, if I remember well he was getting an oil pressure light because of that. Worth looking at while the pan is out. As mentioned, the sensor itself can also go bad.

Oragex........I did look at the small screw in valve on the oil filter housing and it was not clogged.....and I was able to blow through it. Is that stuck open?

JRL......yes sir.....replaced all seals twice.....pick up tube, dipstick tube, and there are two on the passenger side of oil pan.

By breather.....do you mean oiltrap? It has been replaced twice as have the hose up the the valve cover, the connection hose to the block, and we have made sure it is clear and open all the way to intake tube (air inlet tube between MAS airflow and turbo.

Since you have the pan in your hands it is a good time to inspect the oil trap return passage (square hole). Its is known to accumulate sludge.
