s70 knocksensor

Post by jonesy2569 »

I'm having problems with a 1999 volvo s70 turbo. I changed the engine and put all the sensors and plug-ins on new engine. Went to start it and it don't get any fire to plugs. I've checked everything I can think of. The only thing that I haven't checked is the knock sensors. The new engine was a non turbo and the one I took out was a turbo but switch everything over. My ? Is will the knock sensors keep it from firing. If not does anybody have any idea's. This car has got me really puzzled. Thanks for the help

So have you installed a turbo on a 11:1 compression engine? This is going to be interesting to say the least. Original head or non turbo head?

Cam sensor pickup may be different on non turbo. If you put in a 99 head from a non turbo the cam sensor is now on the exhaust side where previously it was on the intake side. Is the end of the camshaft exactly the same as the turbo head's camshaft?

I hope that I read this right... You replaced a complete turbo engine with a normally aspirated one? If that's the case you are in for a lot more than knock sensors. The two have different injection systems Bosch for turbo, Denso for non-turbo. That means new ECM + the pin out is different + you will need CDM, IMMO and key from the same donor car. That's just for starters.

I still got the donor car and will change the injectors and key switch with the immobilizer. And see where that gets me what about the coil packs. I would guess got to change that also.

I also changed the cams and timed it back in so I already took everything off the turbo engine and put it on the new engine.

The plot thickens.....

Correct me if I'm wrong.... You put a non-turbo engine in your turbo equipped car, then swapped all of the turbo goods onto the non-turbo engine?

Did you drill out the oil pickup beneath the rear of the water pump so you can supply oil to the turbo?

You don't have to worry about immobilsers for heavens sake. An engine is a pump not a circuit board. If you swap all the hardware over including turbo and intake manifolds, water pickup and cams you can successfully fool the engine management except for the knock sensors which will be retarding timing all day long.

This whole scenario is doable however you will have massive detonation problems.
